The Central Library organizes a training course on the Dewey Decimal System to enhance technical performance and facilitate classification and circulation processes.
The course, titled “Fundamentals of Classification According to the Dewey Decimal System,” aimed to develop the skills of library unit heads across university colleges in organizing information sources through practical exercises designed to bolster applied knowledge.
The program included a detailed explanation of book acquisition requirements and the primary records maintained in libraries. It also introduced the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and its application mechanisms, as well as workflows for the Koha Integrated Library System (ILS). The course concluded with an assessment test for all participants to evaluate their proficiency.
The training sessions were conducted by Assistant Lecturer Safaa Ahmed Khalil, Head of the Beneficiary Services Division; Assistant Lecturer Alaa Talal Hameed, Head of the Administrative Affairs Division; and Assistant Lecturer Shahd Saad Salem, Head of the Technical Procedures Unit.
This initiative is part of the Central Library’s ongoing efforts to upgrade the skills of its staff in accordance with the latest library systems, aiming to streamline book acquisition, cataloging, and circulation services.
