Divine laws and all ancient civilizations around the world have paid great attention to human rights, freedom, and dignity. The concept of human rights witnessed remarkable development in the mid-twentieth century with the establishment of international organizations dedicated to the protection of human rights, in addition to the accession of many countries to conventions and charters that promote the observance of both individual and collective human rights.
The civilizations of Mesopotamia were among the first to recognize and uphold human rights and dignity, issuing numerous laws to regulate life and protect individuals within society.
On December 10, 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, marking this date as the annual Human Rights Day.
The Human Rights Division at the University of Al-Hamdaniya was established under University Order No. (2/2/1752) on May 7, 2024.
