Scientific Affairs Department

Scientific Affairs Department

The role of the Scientific Affairs Department generally lies in focusing on the university’s various scientific outputs, including the publication of research, patents, and books of all kinds. It is also responsible for following up on diverse scientific activities such as conferences, symposiums, and workshops. It was previously called the Research and Development Department, but its structure was modified, and additional tasks were assigned when it became the Scientific Affairs Department in October 2017. This department consists of two main divisions: the Scientific Division and the Scientific Output Marketing Division.

Vision and Mission: Based on the vision and mission of the University of Al-Hamdaniya, the Scientific Affairs Department adopts a vision and mission to achieve the university’s goals. This is centered on a strong commitment to rigorous scientific research that meets society’s needs. It encourages various scientific activities to keep pace with the research and academic publishing movement, develops researchers’ skills, and manages diverse scientific affairs. The department aspires to be a forum for the university’s intellectual outputs and a fundamental pillar in exploring and keeping pace with areas of cognitive development. It seeks to provide a research environment that supports outstanding scientific output and to enrich and disseminate knowledge by developing the capabilities of the teaching staff across various fields.

Goals:

  • Enhancing and consolidating the university’s scientific research outputs, promoting its ethics, and striving to provide its material and moral requirements.

  • Fostering scientific communication and nurturing distinguished relationships with universities, research centers, various state institutions, and scientific and cultural associations, while developing cooperation with them.

  • Developing teaching staff by adopting constructive training programs at prestigious international universities, and encouraging professors to take scientific sabbaticals at such universities to accomplish high-level scientific research and transfer modern technology to our universities.

  • Encouraging and motivating teaching and research cadres to elevate the level of research work at the university.

  • Exploring and keeping pace with areas of scientific and cognitive development, and enhancing the cognitive and research capabilities of the teaching staff.

  • Sponsoring, encouraging, and following up on the distinguished intellectual output of the University of Al-Hamdaniya, including authored works, studies, patents, and other outstanding scientific achievements.

  • Developing creative scientific activity at the university and uniformly documenting data for all the university’s scientific activities, such as conferences, seminars, workshops, and symposiums. This includes following up on their results and circulating them to ensure maximum possible benefit.

  • Following up on the publications of scientific journals issued by various university formations, working to solidify them, and elevating them to the ranks of corresponding international journals.

Department Plans

Annual Plan (2024 – 2025):

  • Making it a priority to follow up with the colleges regarding the implementation of their submitted plans, ensuring adherence within specified deadlines, and dispensing with exceptional activities—except in cases of necessity and emergencies—to organize work according to the ministerial plan.

  • Continuing to direct letters of thanks and appreciation from the University President to authors of books and researchers publishing in journals within global repositories for their scientific outputs. These will be published on the university and department websites as an incentive for them to contribute more.

  • Proposing a financial reward for every research paper published in Scopus and Clarivate repositories within the first and second quartiles, for every patent bearing our university’s name, and for every authored book, to encourage teaching researchers.

  • Holding a student research conference, which is considered an important and encouraging event for our dear students to develop their skills in various fields. We propose rewarding the top three winners in each track with material and moral gifts in recognition of their efforts.

  • Holding a workshop for the purpose of establishing scientific journals accredited by the Ministry, and subsequently applying the steps of the roadmap to enter global repositories.

  • Creating a detailed guide for the scientific sabbatical program to facilitate and simplify routine procedures. A workshop will be held on sabbatical mechanisms, striving to simplify procedures to encourage our faculty who wish to take sabbaticals, given its positive impact on raising their scientific level, exploring global universities, and publishing research in highly ranked (reputable) journals.

  • Holding a workshop on scientific publishing and writing scientific research, especially aimed at new faculty members.

  • Holding a workshop on the government program to review its activities, striving to elevate the university’s activities, focusing on them, and categorizing them according to the Ministry’s requirements.

  • Organizing a workshop for college deans or their deputies to explain the mechanisms of scientific cooperation between global and local universities, due to its significant scientific benefits for the university.

  • The National Classification of Research Centers: A proposal prepared by the Scientific Affairs Department to establish a scientific mechanism according to adopted standards for classifying research centers at the university and Ministry levels. The criteria include the number of researchers, their academic titles, the volume of research output in global repositories, and the impact of that output in terms of global citations and other metrics.

  • Financial Support for Researchers: An initiative adopted by the university to provide financial support for researchers intending to apply for projects beneficial to the university in various fields, managed through an integrated system currently being developed in the Scientific Affairs Department.

  • Organizing the Scientific Conference for Scholarship Students, honoring the creative among them under the slogan “Scholarship Students are a National Wealth.”

  • Concluding agreements and twinnings with a number of universities and academic institutions in a manner that serves our university.

  • Spreading the culture of scientific research in cooperation with the university’s colleges and departments by holding several symposiums and courses to develop and disseminate this culture.

  • Activating the department’s website. Considering the website represents the department’s interface to the world, the current page will be developed and updated to contain the department’s most important activities and statistics, such as published research and hosted conferences.

  • Adopting barcodes in our department to keep pace with technological development and facilitate procedures by reducing paper usage. To enhance information and data security, barcode files can only be accessed using the official university email.

Five-Year Plan (2023 – 2028):

  • Seeking, as a priority, to implement an electronic system to track the colleges’ responses according to the approved plan, submit activities to the Ministry within a specified time, and ensure a unified response for all colleges.

  • Developing the skills of the teaching staff and archiving their activities by encouraging them to upload their diverse works. Every department head and dean will have access to follow up on the uploading of their faculty members’ scientific activities. Similarly, the Vice Presidents and the University President can log in to follow the activity of any college, department, or faculty member.

  • Following up on the university’s journals and submitting proposals that would raise their level and facilitate their entry into scientific repositories.

  • Following up on conferences held by the university, aiming to make them international and publish their research in reputable journals.
