Human Rights Division

Divine religions and all ancient civilizations throughout the world have prioritized human rights, freedom, and dignity. The concept of human rights achieved significant development in the mid-20th century through the establishment of international organizations dedicated to respecting human rights, alongside many countries joining conventions and charters that promote the consideration of both individual and collective human rights.

The civilizations of Mesopotamia were among the first to focus on human rights and dignity, issuing numerous legislations to regulate life and protect individuals within society. On December 10, 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, establishing an annual celebration of Human Rights Day.

The Human Rights Division was established within the Presidency of the University of Al-Hamdaniya pursuant to University Order No. (2/2/1752) on May 7, 2024.
