Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs
The University of Al-Hamdaniya: The University of the Beautiful Iraqi Spectrum
The University of Al-Hamdaniya embraces all components of the Iraqi people—Muslims, Christians, and Yazidis—across all their sects and ethnicities, including Arabs, Kurds, Shabaks, Turkmens, and Kaka’is. Students from all over Iraq flock to this beautiful spot in the land of Iraq known as the Nineveh Plains.
The university was established by order of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on February 23, 2014, initially comprising two colleges: Education, and Administration & Economics. Its nucleus emerged from the University of Mosul following the cowardly terrorist attack on students in the Nineveh Plains on the morning of May 2, 2010. Since then, the university and its staff have strived to carve a path toward stability and prominence despite the hardships and setbacks that have affected the country and its development.
The harshest challenge was the takeover of the region and the university by the forces of darkness (ISIS and their ilk), leading to the pain of displacement, diaspora, and a total lack of physical space. However, the university quickly rose again through the determination of its administrative and teaching staff. After the liberation of Nineveh by the hands of heroes and the blood of martyrs, the university returned to its original home, proud of its students’ brilliance, to continue its journey of scientific and administrative progress. Through concerted efforts, a qualitative leap was achieved, culminating in the following:
-
Restructuring: Reorganizing all university departments based on scientific and administrative competence, free from sectarian or political leanings.
-
Student Housing: Opening dormitories in the Bartella district, whereas students previously resided in dormitories belonging to the University of Mosul.
-
Infrastructure: Establishing an educational environment and infrastructure for all university branches. This included leasing new buildings to accommodate students, opening lecture halls, purchasing laboratory equipment, and maintaining vital facilities.
-
Cooperation: Signing joint memorandums of cooperation with Iraqi, Arab, and international universities, alongside organizing social and sports activities, workshops, seminars, and conferences.
-
Academic Standards: Implementing the government program for Higher Education, including the course system, quality assurance, program accreditation, and national/international rankings. This also includes supporting faculty in publishing research in international journals.
-
E-Governance: Activating electronic governance by linking university formations through digital programs and updating the university’s websites.
-
Land Acquisition: Securing 80 dunams of land in Bartella for the construction of the permanent Al-Hamdaniya University campus, which has been fenced while awaiting the budget to begin the “University City” project.
-
Expansion: Obtaining official approvals to reconstruct the university building, as well as securing an additional 65 dunams of land in the town of Karemlash.
-
New Departments: Launching postgraduate studies in the Departments of Arabic Language and History, and establishing the Center for Lasers and Photonics, the Electronic Computer Department, the Gifted Care Unit, and the Human Development Unit.
-
Future Vision: Working toward establishing new colleges and departments that harmonize with the requirements of the Iraqi labor market in general, and the Nineveh Plains market in particular.
In conclusion, we pledge to God and the homeland to remain faithful soldiers in the service of Iraq, its people, and our beloved university—The University of the Beautiful Iraqi Spectrum.
